Integration overview

Image face detection integration uses AWS Rekognition to detect the 100 largest faces in the image. For each face detected, the integration returns face details, including:

AWS Image Rekognition Face Detection

  • The bounding box of the face.
  • The level of confidence that the bounding box contains a face.
  • A fixed set of attributes and the associated confidence level such as facial landmarks (for example, coordinates of eye and mouth), gender, sunglasses, and so on.

The face detection algorithm provided by AWS Rekognition is most effective on frontal faces. On non-frontal or obscured faces, the algorithm might not detect the faces or might detect faces with lower confidence.

When using the Image face detection integration, you can select the AWS region you want to perform the processing.

For ease of use and help you to analyze the result, you can enable the draw bounding boxes option. This option generates a new file in addition to the JSON response drawing the bounding boxes on the source image.

How it works

Image face detection integration integration takes an image as input (JPEG or PNG) and returns:

  • A JSON file with the detected faces.
  • A JPEG image drawing the bounding boxes of the faces detected on the source image. (If the DrawBoundingBoxes option is enabled)

For instance, if a file name image01.png is uploaded and processed by this integration with the DrawBoundingBoxes option enabled, the result of the processing will be:

  • image01.png.aws-image-face-detection.json
  • image01.png.aws-image-face-detection.jpeg
